Past student wins Agrifuture award
2003 Graduate from The Cathedral College, Rockhampton, Rebecca Bradshaw (nee Tarry) recently won Queensland AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award last week during International Women’s Week.
The Tarry sisters were Boarders from Moura, a small town 2 hours southwest of Rockhampton. Last week Rebecca was recognized for pioneering health services for rural and remote familieRebecca has established the first private, child health nurse-led service to be delivered online in Queensland.
Rebecca has won a $15,000 grant to further her work and is now a national finalist in running for a further $20,000.
Remembering her time at TCC fondly, Rebecca said she made lifelong friends and memories.
“I had many opportunities for growth and one of my most valuable experiences was the Vocational Education Training program that was offered. I completed a Cert II in Business Administration while simultaneously completing my senior years.”
“I had the privilege of some amazing teachers who had a positive impact on my life. It’s interesting reflecting back, as at the time you don’t appreciate the people or the experience until a little later.”
Rebecca recalled many of her teachers and boarding staff during her college years including Sr Margaret Dixon and Mrs Amanda Pearce.
“I have very fond memories of chats with Sister Marg about all things life in general and Mrs Pearce was my grade 8-10 boarding supervisor and she had a long lasting and positive influence on who I am today.”
“I enjoyed attending TCC and am grateful for the opportunities it offered me. I am also grateful for the values that were instilled in me during this time. Like all teenagers and those who attend boarding school, there were some challenging periods in this time of our lives and we are so impressionable. I am thankful the staff and values of TCC were there to support me,” Rebecca said.
The Cathedral College Academic Dean and Past Rice House Dean Miss Therese Quinn remembers Rebecca as a young person with a generous heart who was always willing to lend a hand.
“We really are incredibly proud of Rebecca and the vital difference she is making in the lives of families, improving accessibility to health services. We wish her the very best in her endeavours,” she said.
